Note on a discrepancy between sources. Section 5(1) of the Act provides that the four members are “nominated by the Government of Assam with the concurrence of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council”. Some secondary sources state that these four members are nominated by the Governor. For the purposes of this website the text of the Act has been followed; the current position should be confirmed from the latest Government notification.
Current Status
An Interim General Council and an Interim Executive Council were constituted by nomination under section 59 (inserted by the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (Amendment) Act, 2020). Public records refer to a 30-member interim council appointed in February 2021, in connection with a notification bearing the number TAD/BC/34/2020/149 dated 25 February 2021.
Elections to the General Council had not been held at the time this page was compiled; the interim arrangement continues. The election schedule is to be notified by the Assam State Election Commission.
